HILTON HEAD ISLAND: Symposium explores histories of several native islanders

Louise Cohen, 61, had always wondered where she came from. She had heard some family stories passed down from her grandmother, like the one in which her great-grandfather's teeth had become worn down because he took the bullets out of his Civil War-era gun with his mouth.

But Cohen still didn't know much about William "Bill" Simmons. It wasn't until she began researching her family history at the Heritage Foundation Library that she discovered more.

William Simmons is an amazing individual I believe he still resides on Daufuskie Island, SC, just off of Hilton Head Island, SOuth Carolina.
